WLASNC Board Statement on the Termination of the Lease for the "Sobering Center" at 14119 Santa Monica Boulevard

On September 27, 2017, the West Los Angeles Sawtelle Neighborhood Council (WLASNC) voted to unanimously condemn the "sobering facility" planned for 14119 Santa Monica Boulevard. Specifically, the WLASNC found that the Clare Foundation and the County had not done adequate outreach on this project, and had moved forward with plans without any input from the surrounding community. The letter sent on behalf of the WLASNC can be found here, and the video of the September 27, 2017 meeting can be found here.

Today, October 9, 2017, Supervisor Sheila Kuehl's office released the following statement, found here, stating that the lease was broken, and the project as currently planned, has been terminated. The letter goes on to state that a new location will be found, this time with community input.

The WLASNC would like to thank the community for vocally standing up and condemning the secrecy and lack of input that surrounded this project which allowed us, as a community, to have a voice in determining how such projects should be vetted through the community.

The WLASNC would like to especially thank those stakeholders that brought this project to light, and encourage everyone in the community to continue to be vigilant in bringing to light any projects that are intended to be foisted upon us without our input.

Sincerely,

Jamie L. Keeton

Chair, WLASNC
