The West LA Sawtelle Neighborhood Council is proud to have had two Board Members participate in the annual LA Congress of the Neighborhood Councils this past weekend, September 9th. Imagine the Congress is a giant convention of nearly every Neighborhood Council represented in a huge get-together with multiple sessions of workshops and meetings.

WLASNC Board Member Jay Ross moderated a panel NO MORE STUPID BOXES: HOW TO BUILD GOOD APARTMENTS IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD.

Architects Martin Leitner of PerkinsWill and Tom Steidl of Gensler provided insight and commentary on new designs that integrate with the public realm, and innovate shapes and massing that turn cube-like apartments into more home-like designs.

WLASNC Board Member Jay Handal, who also Chairs the NC Budget Advocates also moderated three workshops: WHO LIVES HERE? FINDING OUR UNDERREPRESENTED STAKEHOLDERS, MANAGING AND SPENDING NC (TAXPAYER) FUND$, and CITY BUDGET: EVERYTHING STARTS AND ENDS HERE

When asked about the value of the Congress and the workshops, Jay Handal explains, "The 2017 Congress of Neighborhoods was the place to go for training information, insight, and great dialogue."
