Coffee with a Cop March 5th

March 5th: Senior Lead Officer Maria Gray and Senior Lead Officer James (Jimmy) Lavenson met with members of the community for “Coffee with a Cop” from 11:30AM-1:30PM. A variety of topics were discussed as about a dozen local neighbors asked questions about homelessness in the area, increasing traffic, car and home safety tips, conflict mediation resources, and much more. We were provided with a handy LAPD Contact List, useful websites, as well as some security tips. Officer Jimmy also encouraged us to install and use the MYLA311 app on our smartphones which is an effective and easy way to report city issues such as bulk item removal, pothole reporting, street light outages, and much, much more.

In addition to listening attentively and giving advice and feedback to local concerns, Officer Maria shared her personal thoughts on some of the current challenges facing the department. While LAPD’s primary concern is civilian safety through awareness, crime deterrence, and crime prevention, she was transparent about some LAPD challenges. Patrol officers are increasingly busy, which puts additional stress on officers as they prioritize calls while battling increased traffic to travel from site to site.

We thank Officers Maria and Jimmy, as well as the rest of the LAPD, for this event and for the good work that they do for the neighborhood.
