2016 Los Angeles Neighborhood Council Elections

The race for the next President of the United States is starting to get exciting, so is the 2016 Los Angeles Neighborhood Council Elections! Well maybe not that exciting…but it is definitely a lot more fun and is just as important for our neighborhoods. The 2016 Neighborhood Council  Elections are gaining momentum and Los Angeles needs you! After all, who better to create a  powerful community than the people that live, work, and play there! “Working together,  Neighborhood Councils have generated success stories across the City – from community health  clinics in Pico Union, to a greening strategy for Downtown, to addressing traffic and transportation  issues in West LA”(Department of Neighborhood Empowerment). The Neighborhood Council  system is comprised of 1800 Board Members across 96 Neighborhood Councils that exist to  connect Angelenos to City Hall and improve government responsiveness to local concerns. This  system allows us to not only voice our concerns with local issues, but also find viable solutions.

On February 21, 2016 candidate registration opens for Region 11 Neighborhood Councils which includes West Los Angeles Sawtelle Neighborhood Council. The candidate registration period is from February 21-April 6, 2016. Elections will be held on  June 5, 2016. Later this year, we’ll be sharing more information about the candidates running for the Council seats in West Los Angeles. Whether it is here in West LA or any neighborhood, we truly feel that all neighborhoods are better when people get involved. Get involved in your community and also strengthen our democracy in Los Angeles.
