El Niño hits California
The first major El Nino storm of the season has battered southern California, bringing heavy rain to the drought-stricken region and causing flooding and mudslides in some areas. The current El Niño has tied the strongest previous El Niño on record, but appears to have peaked according to data just released this week by NOAA.
"Experts predicted the storm would drop more than 13 inches of snow on Lake Arrowhead, forcing the Rim of the World Unified School District to close schools early Wednesday, the district announced on its website" (LA Times).
